So this came on my iPod this morning…

…I didn’t even know it was on there.  It was a nice surprise and got me in a good mood for the rest of the day!

Home again!

All good things must come to an end, and indeed, we have just walked in the door and our break away is over.  Now comes the unpacking, the washing and the memories.

The sun came out this morning and stayed out for us all the way home.  It poured all day yesterday after only a little bit of sunshine in the morning.  We got out for a bit of brunch in the morning.  We went to Wickens and had an awesome feed.  Mrs B had the crumpets and I had the eggs on toast with pancetta.  We both had the same meals when we were there in December, and we have been aching to stuff our face with them again ever since.  We were not let down, they were up to their usual high standard:

We went for another walk up and down the main drag, but being a Saturday and the off-season, most of the shops were closed.  Then it started to rain again so we headed back to Marengo.  Unperturbed by the weather, we once again set up camp on the couch and let books, music and coffee pass the time.

We went out for a pizza later on for dinner and then blobbed again while the rain pounded down.  The original Superman movie was on TV so we got a laugh out watching that.  Before long, the bed called and we slept soundly right through until this morning when we were woken by the alarm - on purpose this time, not like yesterday…

Check out was at 10am so we pottered around, packed everything up and gave the van a quick clean.  After a brief stop for a hit-the-road coffee, we headed back down the Great Ocean Road toward home.  The weather was good, there was no rain so it was a fairly smooth trip.  We only got caiught behind one idiot who thought it was a great idea to take up the whole road with his Nissan Patrol and huge caravan, ignoring the slow vehicle lanes and the 8 cars behind him.

We brunched in Lorne at Cafe Kaos - Mrs B with poached eggs on toast and myself with a mindblowing pork belly roll stuffed with shredded beetroot, carrot and dill.  OMG I can still taste it now just thinking about it!

[[posterous-content:pid___2]]Filled up and with the brain refueled, we again hit the road and had a very smooth trip all the way home.  We are home and safe, and ready to get back to the daily grind tomorrow.  Not really, but we gotta pay the bills!

The day the sun came out

I got a shock when I woke up this morning.  What is this?  Sunshine? Lo and behold, t’was the dawns early light shining on yonder wall, sans precipitation.

Translated that means that the sun was shining this morning when I got up.  I got up a little earlier than planned since I forgot to turn off the weekend alarm on my phone and it dutifully played me the song of it’s people at 0730.  Never mind.

I thought about going for a walk, but then sensibility kicked in and I checked my email.  While doing that it rained again.  Looking out the window now though, the sun has remained shining for a good hour or so now.  I might just get that walk in, who knows.

Boy we had a lazy day yesterday.  After Mrs B surfaced we went into Apollo Bay and sought out breakfast.  The place we went to back in December - Wickens - had finished its breakfast menu by the time we got there (1130ish) so we walked around a bit more.  We were feeling like something bacon and eggs related and spotted The Bay Leaf.  It looked like it was closed from the outside, but the sign said OPEN so in we went.  So glad we did, because the coffee was excellent, and we ate this:

A bagel stuffed full of lettuce, bacon, tomato, avocado, dill mayo and more bacon.  Dang it was GOOD.  We sat and chatted for while before going for another walk up and down the main drag.  All this effort obviously deserved reward in the form of more coffee, so we went to Cafe 152 and took a window seat.  We sat there for ages and watched all the Indian, Chinese and Mystery Asian tourists walking around all wrapped up with “why did we come here at this time of year?” looks on their faces.  It was good fun just people watching for a while.

From there we drive back to Marengo - it is only a 2 minute drive from civilisation to where we are staying - and before long we were once again esconced on the couch listening to music and reading.  We watched a movie, had a snooze and then once again thought about food.

We went to a local fish and chip shop and were underwhelmed. Not entirely, since the Blue Grenadier was quite nice, but overall it was a bit of a letdown.  Never mind, we are still here for two more days and there will no doubt be more good food to consume.

What will we do today?

Probably sit around, read, listen to music, snooze and maybe, just maybe, I might go for that walk.

Maybe.

At the beach

As I sit here now, I am wrapped in a blankie, am wearing a beanie and sipping a hot cup of tea.  Outside it is raining and has done so since about two hours after we got here.

And I couldn’t be happier.

It is so nice to turn the ol’ brain off.  Since we arrived yesterday, we have just sat around, read books, listened to music and eaten junk food.  It has been a crazy few months leading up to getting here, and now that we are here, it is oh so good.

We went to bed around midnight last night.  All wrapped up in a mountain of blankets.  I turned the light off.  A couple of hours later I was conscious of a noise outside like a four wheel drive .  There was a light shining through the window and I thought “Man who arrives at a camping ground at 2 in the morning and sets up?”  The light slowly grew stronger as my eyes adjusted so I grabbed my phone to see what time it was.

It was 0720.

The last seven hours had snapped by in an instant of sleep.  It had been such a restful sleep that the time had passed like it didn’t even happen.  The growing light was not my eyes getting used to the dark, it was the dawn getting brighter.

When Mrs B wakes up later we are going foraging for breakfast through the cafes in Apollo Bay…

Here are our pics so far:
